ABOUT TANIA AND ÁLVARO

Tania has painted her body in white many times. She has imagined wires tensing the corners of her mouth; time had melted while she danced in the last piece of wasted land. She has travelled all over the world, following butoh dance masters, absorbing the light and shadow of their bodies, practicing ways of walking barefoot in the snow. She has carefully listened to her guts and has imagined her ribcage full of fishes and stems; roots and insects.

Álvaro has learnt to walk on stilts. He has been huge. He has overflown masses of hallucinated people dancing in Ibiza nightclubs. He has melted with other bodies many times, in duets, trios and bigger groups, flowing freely in contact-improvisation festivals. He has imagined his joints like water; his pelvis as a jellied, adaptable and crystalline sphere.

Álvaro and Tania love to dance together. They feel pleasure abandoning their bodies to one another. They allow each other the possibility of bringing back all the bodies that have survived from those they once were or longed to be. Their encounter also leaves them enough space to imagine and feel those bodies that they might become.

álvaro & tania will be presented as a work in progress on 24th and 25th July at 9.30 pm. in Matadero de Madrid, one of those super spaces that made us believe – for just one moment - that our projects could be possible. It will be inside the program of Festival FringeMadrid. - published: 23/07/2014, 18:15

ABOUT THE EXERCISE OF LOVE

It is early morning, I wake up; you wake up. We have nowhere to go. We play the new song by Sonia Rosa, The Look of Love. “Come here, lay down by my side” (I put a blanket over the tiles). The plants of the feet placed on the floor, knees pointing up to the ceiling. We send our breath to the ribcage and, when exhaling, move carefully the lumbar spine. We are very disciplined and do it totally connected, synchronized, without looking at each other. “I have pain in my jaw”, you say, “and don’t know whether it’s caused by nerves, an excessive tension while practicing Pilates or if I should stop doing you oral sex.” We lay on our front and do some exercises to strengthen our lumbar muscles; we need to learn how to improve our core stability and, little by little, we manage to correct our bodies: there is nothing worse than a bad bone structure. You are dynamic and tonic, I am meticulous and loose. Now, being unemployed, health and body care, love exercises and the news related to our favorite artists are more than enough to give sense to our empty days.
